What’s normal
Your vision may be blurry for some time — that's expected while your eye heals.
Your eye may feel uncomfortable; any over-the-counter pain medication is fine for mild to moderate pain.
Do not rub the eye. Wear your eye shield at bedtime for 1 week.
Sleep on your back or your non-operated side for the first week.
No lifting over 30 lbs, swimming, or vigorous activity for 2 weeks.
No eye makeup for 2 weeks.
Bathing/showering the day after surgery are ok, but avoid water in the eye for 1 week.
Resume all previous medications, including blood thinners, after your first post-op visit unless instructed otherwise.
Ask us about driving at your visit — and only drive once you feel comfortable and safe.
Your Eyedrops after Cataract Surgery
Your Eyedrops
You’ll use three eyedrops after surgery. Shake all bottles before using; wait 3 minutes between each medication. NO NEED TO TAKE DROPS OVERNIGHT. Spread drop times over waking hours.
Order of drops does not matter.
Anti-Inflammatory #1
Prednisolone Acetate 1%
(Pink or White Bottlecap)
4x / day for 1 week,
then 3x —> 2x —> 1x, one week each
then stop unless instructed.
Anti-Inflammatory #2
Ketorolac (Acular)
(Grey Bottlecap)
4x / day for 3 weeks, then stop
May sting momentarily — expected
Antibiotic
Ofloxacin (Ocuflox)
(Tan Bottlecap)
4x / day for 1 week, then stop
When to Call Us
Call right away if…
Severe pain not relieved by over-the-counter medication
A sudden decrease in vision
Increasing redness or discharge
New flashes, floaters, or a curtain/shadow over your vision
