Contoura Laser Vision Correction
What is Contoura?
Contoura Vision is a topography-guided LASIK treatment that provides a surgeon with much more detailed information on the structure of an individual person’s cornea than prior generations of LASIK technology. A topographer device measures the unique characteristics of each person’s eyes, which your doctor then uses to create a precise, custom, and individualized treatment plan. The goal of topography-guided LASIK is to be even more precise than with previous technologies, to optimize your visual results, and to help avoid night vision side effects such as glare or haloes around lights.
Topography-Guided LASIK
What is the difference between Contoura Topography-Guided LASIK and Traditional LASIK?
Topography-guided LASIK uses a topographical map of the eye for custom, personalized laser guidance and treatment. This map is made with an aberrometer, which measures how light bends in the eye. Unlike traditional LASIK that corrects overall corneal shape, topography-guided LASIK also smooths out irregularities on the cornea. This leads to better outcomes with better quality of vision, and fewer haloes compared to traditional LASIK.
LASIK Safety - Iris Tracking
A new advance in laser technology, called iris registration, allows Dr. Jimmy Hu to provide our patients with the highest level of accuracy in laser vision correction. Iris registration utilizes a scanning and tracking technology similar to that used in advanced missile guidance systems. This technology creates a detailed map of the patient’s iris before surgery and then allows the laser to precisely match any iris movement or rotation that may occur during treatment. Since the eye naturally moves slightly during surgery, this allows the laser to make minor adjustments in real-time to compensate for subtle eye and head movements (like breathing).
“Iris Registration adds another level of sophistication to laser vision correction,” says Dr. Jimmy Hu “By automatically adjusting the treatment for the eye’s rotation, Iris Registration provides more individualized adjustments that improve the precision of laser vision correction. This technology provides both increased peace of mind and the ultimate in visual quality to our LASIK patients.”
